Sticky Magic – I’m thankful for… (Post #2)
The word “FINE”
My favorite 4-letter “F” word (not to be confused with any other 4-letter word beginning with the letter “F”)
1. That’s fine honey, you go out with your buddies while I stay here taking care of …(everything).
Meaning: (a dare) “you do and you’re toast – I’ve already planned the untimely demise of your golf clubs and unexplainable disappearance of your favorite sports jersey.”
2. My, oh, my, he/she is so fine!
Meaning: (compliment) “Yummy, I’d like to get my hands on that…”
3. Nothing’s wrong, dear, everything is fine.
Meaning: (lie) “everything sucks and/or you are really irritating me.”
4. Fine china or crystal
Meaning: (breakable and could possibly shorten your life expectancy) “You can look, but don’t even think about touching it.”
5. Everything will be just fine
Meaning: (a possible lie) “God, I hope this gets better or works out, otherwise, Lord help me, please.”
6. FINE! (followed by the slamming of a door or cupboard)
Meaning: (Pissed/Anger) “I’m done with this conversation and I’m getting the last word in – therefore, I win!! – neener, neener, neener”
And the list could go on. “Fine” is such a versatile word. I never realized it before or how much it is used in everyday life. On several occasions, that single word has caused my kids to roll their eyes in disbelief, and I’m sure, once or twice, even made them hide in fear. Never underestimate the power of a single word.
Hugs, T.
