The beauty Mother Nature provides…
Some of you already know that Mother Nature has not been considered a friend of mine lately. Her, what I call, temper tantrums have caused a lot of costly problems for me, financially and mentally/emotionally. However, since my last go around with her, I decided to change my attitude; be more appreciative, positive, and make the most of things. Something I had to remind myself of over the last 5 days.
Last Wednesday afternoon, Eastern Washington was under a severe blizzard warning with up to 12 inches of snow in a 14 hour period, to be followed by a week of below zero high temperatures. My first thought was, “Lovely, just freaking lovely! Like we need this again. I’m so sick of this crap.” Ok, maybe not a direct quote but at least a printable one that won’t cause my mother to grab the soap J. Then, after a deep breath and white-knuckling it on the drive home, I arrived at my house to find no power, again. Jaws sore from grinding my teeth, muscles sore from the 1 ¾ hour drive, I started to laugh – out loud! What else can you do? I packed the coolers with snow and food from the fridge, started a huge fire in the fireplace, and headed outside to begin the long slow process of shoveling… and shoveling… and shoveling.
A few days later, the snow settled and the power was back on. Eventually, I was able to get out of the house. Driving conditions remain treacherous, but we have warmed up to 14 degrees – Above zero, our warmest yet!
So, as part of my New Year’s resolution, which I began early this year (read previous post Sticky Magic/Thankful For… #1), I wanted to find the good in the situation, something I am thankful for. On my recent drive, I decided to snap a few photos and Wow! Looking at the scenery and listening to the quiet peacefulness in the air made me really appreciate the beauty of what Mother Nature provided. Some are never lucky enough to experience this in person, only seeing it on Christmas cards or in pictures. It truly is an amazing sight, one I hope you all enjoy as well.
Side note: For those of you that are being hit harder and/or effected way worse, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I know, first hand, the damage and chaos these freak winter storms can cause, and my heart goes out to you. ((((Hugs))))
Thank you for stopping by. Feel free to comment and/or sign the guestbook. I love hearing from anyone that takes a minute to stop in.
Happy New Year! Love, T.
